If you're like me, walking into the wide world of CRM can make the word "intimidating " look like an understatement.  For those of you out there who are looking to get your start in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, but have no idea where to run first, we're here to help.  The purpose of this post is to give the new users (or the soon-to-be new users) out there an overview of what Microsoft Dynamics CRM is and provide a quick and easy way to get your start with Dynamics CRM to avoid the overwhelming feeling that can ensue from attempting to understand this massive application.  Whether you just need to know enough about CRM to get by, or you are about to dive in to discovering all that CRM has to offer, take a look at the resources and articles below to start navigating the waters of Dynamics CRM.

 

 

What exactly is CRM?

If you're stepping into the realm of CRM for the first time, it is essential to have an understanding of what in the world you are about to work with.  Thousands of companies are using CRM applications these days, and if your company is on the verge of bringing this tool into your workplace, you need to get your bearings on what this huge application is all about."What the Heck is CRM?" - This will give you a brief breakdown of what Dynamics CRM is in a quick, concise article.

 

 

Where do I get started?

It's no secret that there are a vast number of resources online and in print to offer assistance to those of us who are learning how to use CRM.  However, all of these resources can be overwhelming and time consuming to find.  Below are several suggestions for getting started with Dynamics CRM.

 

• Microsoft Virtual Academy- If you're an audio/visual learner, the Microsoft Virtual Academy is for you.  The videos combine instruction and demonstration, to bring you up to speed on what CRM is and what it can do.
• Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Administration Bible- This book is the A-Z Encyclopedia of CRM.  If you learn best by reading, highlighting, note taking, etc. this tool is for you.  This bible gives you the incredible resource of being able to look up almost any facet of CRM and get an easy-to-understand explanation.  
• Start a 30 Day Trial - Sometimes the best way to learn, is to do.  If you follow this link and click through the simple instructions, you can receive a free 30 day trial with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015.
• Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Quick Start Guide for Business Users - This one-page "nuts and bolts" download will give instructions on how to perform a few fundamental actions in CRM.  I would definitely recommend attempting these actions within the free 30 day trial mentioned above.

 

*Note: Even though some of these resources are dated for CRM Dynamics 2011, they will still give you a solid foundation of the functions and abilities of Dynamics CRM 2015.

Once you get started with these tools, you are on your way to becoming a well-informed user of Microsoft CRM.  Getting beginner-level training through the links above will help bring you up to speed on the workings of Dynamics CRM and what it has to offer.  The process to understanding how CRM works and being able to competently use it is not immediate.
